Tia tests out Lure Balls while dealing with exploding Pokemon.
“All right, Emi. Headbutt it again.”
An extremely bored Seel loped up to the nearest tree and Headbutted it, sidestepping the scores of cracked and shattered Lure Balls scattered on the grass.
After three days of running all over Mt. Mortar headbutting trees and breaking rocks, Tia was nowhere near close to finishing this particular project – tweaking the Lure Ball to work on Headbutt and Rock Smash encounters as well as fishing.
The tree shook violently, displacing a sleepy and confused Pineco.
“All right, here we go…” Tia quickly threw a Lure Ball.
The Ball wobbled once, twice, and… began to shudder. Smoke flowed out from the seam.
“Crap… Not again!” Tia muttered. “Emi! Use Protect!”
The shield went up just as the Lure Ball exploded.
Tia sighed, and she and Emi walked to another, undisturbed tree. Just one more, and if this didn’t work she’d go across the river to the rocks to switch things up.
That is, if the rocks don’t all have Gravelers that know Explosion…
“Headbutt!”
Emi whined, but did it anyway.
“I know, I know. But this is the last one, I promise!” Tia had heard that the new model bicycles, for some reason, could Headbutt trees without the use of a Pokemon, but they were expensive. So she was stuck using her Pokemon to Headbutt and Rock Smash their way to monotonous boredom. Even the constant Explosions were losing their effect.
The tree shook. Tia stared up at the branches, hoping the next Pokemon to fall out wasn’t made of explodium.
But no Pokemon came out. Tia finally snapped and let out a shout, curveballing the Lure Ball she was holding directly into the tree. The Lure Ball bounced off the tree… then caused it to disappear.
Tia nearly fell over in shock. “What…?” She slowly crawled over to the wobbling Lure Ball, which clicked closed right as she picked it up. Immediately she ran over to her research station and plugged the Ball in.

A faint smile crossed Tia’s face.
Suddenly, the Lure Ball began to smoke. It immediately became hotter to the touch, and began to glow a bright red.
“Oh, no…” Tia quickly unplugged the cable before it melted, and threw the Lure Ball as far away as she could. “Nonononono…”
The Lure Ball exploded.
“Oh, come on!” Tia shouted, shielding her eyes, “Since when does Sudowoodo learn Explosion?!”
She picked herself off of the ground, and looked around. Her research station was still intact, thank goodness. And she still managed to get some useful data before it exploded on her. She really shouldn’t be complaining. Even so…
She shook her head ruefully. “Explosion…” she muttered.
