Fun and Games (?)

Summary:

Weyrling Akari teaches indigo-blue Tykenth the meaning of fun through a game of Frisbee.

Notes:

(See the end of the work for notes.)

Tykenth stared intensely at the gleaming silver disc Akari was holding. What is it? He asked, tilting his head to one side. His eyes whirled in quiet confusion.

“It’s called a Frisbee,” Akari said, smiling. “Tr’silo found it in the Archives and had one made for Ishkinth. He said Ishkinth really liked it, and lent it to me to try out with you.”

How does it work? Tykenth still looked confused.

“You throw it into the air, then catch it!”

Hmm. Tykenth tilted his head to the other side and continued to stare at the Frisbee. Akari could almost see the question marks floating around his head.

“It’s a game that’s supposed to be fun. I’m not surprised Ishkinth liked it, given how obsessed she is with fetch.”

Ishkinth thinks everything is fun. I don’t see the point.

Akari sighed and smiled. “Sometimes you have to sit back, relax, and do something enjoyable. Mum always tells us that all work and no play makes you dull!”

Dull?

“Yep. Doing fun things helps sharpen your mind and makes you think better!”

Hmm. Tykenth’s eyes whirled in thought. When you put it that way…

Akari’s eyes twinkled. “Want to try?”

Tykenth stared at Akari with determination. All right.

Akari laughed and tossed the Frisbee into the air. Tykenth narrowed his eyes as he watched it glide through the air.

“Catch it, Tykenth!” Akari shouted.

Tykenth launched off, running after the gliding Frisbee. He sprang up and caught it in his mouth, landing on his feet with a thud.

Akari ran up to him. “How was it?” she asked.

Tykenth opened his mouth, dropping the Frisbee on the ground. He thought for a moment, remembering the exhilarating feeling of running after the Frisbee and catching it. Another, bubbly feeling built up in his chest, which made him want to laugh. He looked at Akari and nodded.

I think it will do.

Notes:

I wrote this for several reasons: one, my Lady Blues series was missing a Lower Caverns-bred girl to Impress a blue. Two, I wanted to write something similar to Kaiya and Mabonth's antics in Sunrays and Turquoise Days, but with a dragon completely opposite in personality. And three, I replayed Dragonchoice: Candidate after being away from it for several months, and I have the itch to write another Candidate dragonpair! In the case of Dragonchoice: Candidate's dragonets, Indigo Blue has the complete opposite trait to Sea Green (Serious vs. Fun) so I wanted to see how a familiar scene played out with a serious-minded dragon instead of a fun-loving dragon.
