Background:

Inari is a newly-promoted Journeyman Starcrafter, specializing in drafting maps and star charts, and cataloging them. Originally hailing from the Ista region, Inari was transferred to the Austra region as a result of a power struggle between her Master and another Master.

Inari came from a family of silversmiths, with generations of her family being a part of the Smithcraft. Despite this, Inari showed little interest in the profession, preferring instead to read and study more abstract subjects like mathematics and physics. Her interest in the Starcraft was fostered by her uncle, her father's estranged younger brother who was looked down upon by the rest of the family for joining the Starcraft instead of becoming a Smith. He taught her the names of the stars and the stories behind their names, as well as how to navigate using the stars as her map. When Inari decided to follow in her uncle's footsteps and apprentice to the Starcraft, her family gave their blessing and support.

Given Ista's warm climate and easy access to the sea, Inari learned how to sail at a young age. As a teenager, she took up night sailing as a hobby, using the stars as her guide. This eventually led to an interest in maps and mapmaking, and Inari would often go on long night sailing trips around Ista, charting her progress both on a map and a star chart, while also camping out in the wilds during the day.

Inari has always dreamed of flying through the sky with a dragon, to be closer to the stars. She was Searched for a previous Hatching at Ista Weyr, but failed to Impress. Because of this, Inari looks forward to Standing at Austra Weyr's next Hatching, though some misgivings plague her mind related to what happened at her last Hatching.

Inari's mother. She and Inari's father are silversmiths who own a jewelry shop in Ista. Her specialty is crafting pendants, earrings, and other charms out of silver.

Inari's father. He and Inari's mother are silversmiths who own a jewelry shop in Ista. His specialty is crafting and repairing silver pocket watches and compasses.

Velaris
A Senior Journeyman at the Starcrafthall in Ista, and Inari's uncle. He taught Inari at a young age about the stars, their names and their stories, as well as how to navigate using the stars to guide her. He is estranged from the rest of Inari's extended family, as he decided to become a Starcrafter instead of a Smith, but Inari and her parents have always supported him.

Colleagues:

Master Balthasar
Inari's mentor when she was an apprentice. As a young man, his cartography skills were unparalleled and he was known as one of Pern's best mapmakers. He is semi-retired from mapmaking due to failing eyesight, and has moved on to teaching apprentices how to make maps and star charts. He believes that mapping is as much an art as it is a science, and encourages his students to express themselves artistically through their maps in addition to focusing on accuracy.

Kitara
A Journeyman at the Starcraft Plateau who specializes in meteorology and Threadfall patterns. One of the first friends Inari makes upon arriving in Austra, who takes it upon herself to look after Inari.

Description:

Inari is short and slim, and has black hair, brown eyes and a tan complexion. She prefers wearing her hair long and in a braid, and often dresses in comfortable clothes like tunics, trousers and boots.

RP Hooks:

Former Impression Candidate - As an apprentice, Inari was an Impression candidate for the latest clutch at Ista Weyr, but did not Impress. A Starcraft Master with a personal vendetta against Inari's Master decided to get back at him by having Inari kidnapped, drugged and locked in a Weyr storeroom during the Hatching. By the time she was found, the eggs had already Hatched, and unfortunately, one hatchling had gone between without finding a rider. The whole incident caused Inari's Master to suffer disgrace and Inari herself to be viewed as a bad omen for future Hatchings. Inari was quietly promoted to Journeyman and transferred to Austra shortly afterward.

Dreaming of Dragons - Inari still dreams of being a dragonrider, despite what happened to her at Ista's Hatching. But that dream now comes with misgivings. What if she becomes a candidate at Austra and doesn't make it to the Hatching again? What if another dragonet dies because of her? Would she even be allowed to Stand because of her history? Does she even deserve a dragon because of what happened? The next time a Search happens, Inari wants to answer the call, but these thoughts constantly plague her.

Alone but Never Lonely (Maybe) - Because of the nature of her work and hobbies, Inari spends a lot of time alone and in quiet reflection, with plenty of time to think. She finds the silence relaxing, and the lack of companionship doesn't bother her... most of the time. Sometimes she does wish for someone who would understand her - someone she could share her hopes and dreams with.
