About Me

I'm a woman in her late 30s, with way too many hobbies and not enough time to enjoy them all! I'm also very, very bored. And an overgrown kid who never outgrew Pokemon, Digimon or Sailor Moon. I'm single with no kids, and wouldn't really mind if I stayed that way.

My favorite color is turquoise blue, with honorable mentions to blue violet and hot pink.

I love cats, but am horribly allergic to them at the same time, so unless I want to die I can only watch them from a distance or look at pictures.

I am a chemist by training, and my skill set is in QA in plastics manufacturing.

I have inattentive ADHD, so I tend to hyperfocus on one specific thing for a short time, then suddenly switch to another thing. My hobbies come and go in cycles, so I have a ton of hobbies, but I always go back to them. I have a tendency to fall down rabbit holes when hyperfocusing and deeply explore specific topics within a short period of time. Thus, I end up picking up a lot of esoteric, but useful skills. In fact, this website is part of a greater desire to try and document at least some of the weird how-tos I come across, in case they help someone else!

I love books, and my favorite genre is Sci-Fi (though it's more on the softer side - hard sci-fi with flat characters and boring, dry descriptions of how things work is not as fun to read as softer sci-fi with more relatable characters but some concepts made of handwavium...) My favorite book of all time is A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L'Engle, which kickstarted my interest in Sci-Fi along with Animorphs, Ender's Game, and the Dragonriders of Pern. Other, more recent books I've enjoyed are the Revelation Space series by Alastair Reynolds (and really, everything else he's ever written), the Zones of Thought series by Vernor Vinge (starting with A Fire Upon the Deep) and the Three-Body Problem series by Cixin Liu. I also enjoy a lot of manga - my tastes run a bit off the beaten path: shoujo-seinen-josei with a mix of Sci-Fi and Fantasy, and very few mainstream titles (no endless shounen battle manga here!) My favorite manga artist is Yumi Tamura, creator of Basara and 7 Seeds.

I've been an anime fan since I was 11 years old, starting with Sailor Moon, and other anime of the same time period like Cardcaptor Sakura, Pokemon and Digimon. I'm more into 1980s mecha anime and general sci-fi than magical girls or monster-raising, though I do have a soft spot for the anime I grew up with. I'm a big fan of the original Macross series, which ranks up there as one of the most beautiful love stories ever made, and I'm a fan of the original UC Gundam shows (specifically Zeta Gundam), at least until they get too depressing. Regarding anime movies, I'm a fan of Studio Ghibli - my favorite movies are Nausicaa, Castle in the Sky, Kiki's Delivery Service and My Neighbor Totoro. And if you've taken a look around the website, you'll also know that I'm a fan of Makoto Shinkai's works. Just something about the starry skies and detailed landscapes...

I'm not quite as enamoured with video games as I am with anime and manga. I've spent much more time watching other people play video games than actually playing them myself. That being said, I do play some games - almost all of the games I play are turn-based JRPGs, with a few platformers and Metroidvanias with easy modes because I absolutely suck at them (ha!) Most other games just give me anxiety, which I HATE when playing games - I play to de-stress, not to get more stressed! My favorite games are probably the Pokemon games, along with Chrono Trigger and a handful of other JRPGs. I also play gacha-based JRPGs like Granblue Fantasy and Honkai: Star Rail, though I've put a hard limit on the number of those games I play - they eventually take over your life with daily tasks and Guild Wars and content overload, and they get way too expensive after a while with character pulls and me not having any self-control!

Music? I'm not quite sure what specific music genres I'm into - my brother knows more about that than I do. I guess I'm into mostly Alternative Rock (Jimmy Eat World, Coldplay, Anberlin) along with a few 80s bands (Journey, Van Halen) and newer bands with an 80s synth sound. I've always been a fan of Utada Hikaru's music (I was a fan before Kingdom Hearts was a thing!) and I listen to other J-pop artists and bands like DAOKO and UVERWorld. My favorite J-pop/J-rock band is an indie band named Pirokalpin (a romanization of the word Pilocarpine, which is a medicine that treats dry mouth!) I was into City Pop years before it was cool, and my favorite City Pop/80s J-pop/Kayokyoku artist is Yoko Minamino, or "Nanno"! I'm also into Vaporwave and Future Funk, and absolutely love the aesthetic - the combination of retro anime and my favorite colors! I've gotten into collecting cassettes and vinyl because of it as well.

Collecting various things is probably my biggest hobby. I collect everything from books to video to plushies and anime merch - it's always one step away from getting out of control, so much so that I've had to switch from collecting physical media to collecting digital media to save space! (That doesn't really help the plushies or anime figures, though...) It's a problem I'm always trying to solve!

And now I have run out of things to say. (Thank goodness. This was starting to get way too long.) If you've made it to the end of this, congratulations, you get a cookie!
